The Opportunity

Reporting to the General Manager Strategic Procurement, this role will be responsible for developing and leading category management within relevant areas of MinRes. This includes the full category management cycle, from analysis of fact base and development of strategy, through to the execution and implementation of strategic procurement activities (sourcing, negotiation, implementation and contract management) and supplier relationship management.

The role acts as an advocate for the supply function, not just Strategic Procurement, and the Senior Category Manager should be adept at working closely with internal customers, understanding their business and their supply chain needs, executing to meet those needs in a way that sits perfectly alongside the business’ agile, independent way of working.

The role will include working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, to help transform the MinRes inbound supply chain.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of specialists and / or analysts for both performance and development
  • Build relationships at a senior level (GM, EGM as required), leading through influence despite disparity in organisation rank. Manage positive business relationships with both internal customers and suppliers at a senior level
  • Deliver value through the category lifecycle to achieve financial, non-monetary value, risk and sustainability objectives. Use your deep experience to find value where it may not be obvious
  • Lead the formulation and execution of category strategies
  • Develop an internal and external fact base to formulate category management, sourcing and improvement project objectives. Understand that whilst data and analysis is a key part of the role, pragmatism and speed over perfection is vital.
  • By maintaining deep knowledge of markets, understanding industry best practices, and identifying long term business opportunities you will deliver value across sustainability, safety, technology, total cost, productivity and innovation in the assigned spend categories that is aligned to business priorities.
  • Execute the category strategy, or lead others to execute where appropriate
  • Sourcing activity to establish supply agreements utilising best practice principles, ensuring the organisation leverages its overall purchasing power
  • Apply advanced negotiation skills with suppliers to deliver value across the full spectrum of value (financial, non-monetary value, risk and sustainability) for MinRes
  • Ensuring full stakeholder alignment with award decisions and identified improvement activities
  • Ensuring appropriate implementation of contracts and agreements so that the value is realised through the lifecycle of the contract and the supplier
  • Manage the category by holding suppliers accountable for performance including management of key supplier metrics and relationships and ensuring alignment of internal stakeholders with the management strategies for the suppliers.
  • Assist in developing, implement and maintain Source to contract processes and procedures

 What is required

  • Relevant industry qualifications for disciplines (business, management, legal, commercial)
  • Extensive experience in Strategic Procurement, contract and supplier management
  • Previous experience in mining and / or complex contracting environments is highly desirable
  • Experience with reputable procurement system solutions, such as SAP Ariba, Oracle, Coupa, Pronto amongst others.
  • Experience in the procure to pay function is highly desirable.
  • Former experience in recognised ERP solutions, procurement systems and MS tool suite is highly desirable
  • Advanced stakeholder engagement experience working as a procurement professional, and with other functions, to highlight opportunities for improvement, quantify benefits with robust financial models, communicate change and create buy-in to those changes and drive forward the implementation of changes
  • Advanced computer skills – Microsoft suite, Excel, ERP systems
